A trip down memory lane for Westwood LodgeCan you remember the previous home of Wigan Athletic? Perhaps the industrial landscape of Westwood Cooling Towers or how Silcocks Fair looked 60 years ago? Well, Residents at Westwood Lodge care home were treated to an afternoon of doing just that and looking back on old photos of the town itself throughout the last half century.

Ashley Ruley, Well-being Coordinator, explains how she collected and created a resource for Residents to browse through, “I made a booklet with old photographs of the Wigan area in the 1940’s 50’s and 60’s. I took the booklet to the Residents and we spoke about the photos and places illustrated in the pictures. They really enjoyed looking at it and telling me stories of the places they used to go when they were younger.”

Residents loved Looking at the photos and reminiscing. Bob Kenyon talked about his love of the local sports, “I used to enjoy watching the rugby at Central Park.”

Mavis Farrell, another Resident, remarked, “I have loved looking at these photos, it brings back lots of happy memories, could I please have a copy?”
