A Royal Navy Veteran has a 94th birthday to rememberHC-One’s Hartford Court in Cramlington, Northumberland celebrated Norman Rennie’s 94th birthday with the help of some extra special visitors.

When discussing what to do for Norman’s 94th birthday, the home decided to rule out any entertainers because he doesn’t normally enjoy joining in with the activities, instead he enjoys reminiscing about his time and adventures in the Royal Navy.

Norman was part of the Royal Navy throughout the war and for some time after, so it only seemed right to invite a fellow sailor along to visit Norman for his birthday.

The sailor turned up in full uniform and made sure that this was a birthday that Norman would never forget, not only presenting him with a card but also with some really thoughtful presents as well. He was given a Royal Navy cap tally with the name of his previous ship on and a Navy key ring and pen from a well-decorated current Royal Navy Personnel.

He also invited Norman to visit the ship that is docked on the Tyne which he delightfully accepted.

The visit was emotional for Norman who commented:

“I was filled with joy to receive a visit from a fellow sailor and couldn’t believe it when he presented me with these amazing presents. It’s been such a wonderful day, thank you so much.”

Hartford Court’s Home Manager, Blessing Giwa commented:

“Norman is an amazing man who contributed to the liberties that we all enjoy this post war era. We are so glad that his 94th birthday was one to remember.”
