A day to remember for Resident’s 100th BirthdayHC-One’s Sutherland Court Care Home in Newcastle upon Tyne threw a day to remember for one of their Residents on her extra special day.

Dorothy Ivies celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this month surrounded by her friends. The team at Sutherland Court put on an afternoon tea party for her in the rendezvous café and surprised her with a performer who sang old classics, including Dorothy’s favourite songs.

She loved opening her presents and cards from her family and friends, with some of the messages bringing a tear to her eyes. She spent the day laughing and reminiscing about the good old days when she was younger.

Dorothy was born and raised in Newcastle where she had one brother and sister and went to school in Elswick Road.

When asked about her earlier life, she told stories of when she worked as a manageress in a factory and recalled her wedding day as the happiest and best day of her life.

Sam, Deputy Manager at Sutherland Court asked Dorothy what her secret to a long life is, to which she responded:

“It’s a miracle! I just can’t believe it and everyone has made my day feel so special to me.”
