A 70 year love story at MeadowbankJack and Doreen Wilkinson, age 93 and 87 both residents of HC-One Meadowbank house in Great lever in Bolton celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary on February the 4th.

Jack and Doreen’s love story started in 1945 after they started writing to each other during the Second World War. Jack who served in Egypt and Italy was in the same unit with Doreen’s cousin when he noticed her photograph.

He started to send her letters and they met as soon as he left the army. They married in 1948 when Doreen was just 17 years old and lived in Daubhill.

Jack became a butcher and was widely known as Jacky the butcher. He worked until the age of 75 and Doreen worked in the mills.

The couple went on to have four children, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great grandchild.
When jack needed extra support and moved to Meadowbank home Doreen missed him extremely and joined him. They live next door to each other. The first thing that Jack does in the morning is go and see his beloved wife. 

To celebrate their platinum wedding anniversary the home organised a surprise party.  They were surrounded by family and friends and were thrilled to recieve a telegram off The Queen.
