94-year-old veteran, Barrie Biltcliffe from
Greenacres care home in Meltham, visited St Bartholomew’s Church to pay his respects for Remembrance Sunday.
Barrie completed his National Service in 1948 before moving on to a successful career in insurance, but spent 30 years selling poppies during his spare time. Barrie said,
‘I served in the Royal Artillery for two years and I feel very proud of everyone who sacrificed for our country. They gave their lives for us and we should always remember.’
Dressed in military attire, Barrie was touched to see the display of poppies on the church’s grounds, to which he had dedicated so much time.
Claire Wilson, the Lifestyle Manager at Greenacres, added, ‘Remembering those who fought for our freedom is such an important part of life, and to join Barrie in honouring our fallen soldiers was a very special moment.’
