Residents at HC-One’s Millcroft Care Home, in Redditch, gathered to celebrate British Pie Week with an array of delicious activities and tasty pastry treats.
Millcroft residents kicked off the week with a lively and interactive cookery class in the morning on Wednesday, March 5, where 13 residents rolled up their sleeves to create mouthwatering apple and almond pies.
From making the pastry to rolling it out and preparing the fillings, residents enjoyed the activity alongside Kitchen Manager, Matthew Bond, and Group Development Chef, Matthew O Brien. Millcroft resident, Joan Partridge, 103-years-old, got stuck in with taking part in the workshop and helped her dear friend and fellow resident, , which was very heartwarming to see.
In the afternoon, Millcroft residents enjoyed a fantastic tasting session featuring some classic British pies. Residents sampled both a chicken and tarragon pie and a hearty steak and ale pie.
However, the true stars of the show were the residents' apple and almond pies. Relatives visiting the home could not stop praising the pies, with one guest describing the savoury pies as “absolutely beautiful".
Lyndsay Sard, HC-One’s Millcroft Care Home Manager, said:
"It has been great to see our Millcroft residents really getting involved in making the apple and almond pies. It was a really lovely day, and the home was filled with delicious, tasty scents."
