60 Years of Kind Service for Caerphilly Care HomeResidents, members of the Care Team and Relatives at HC-One’s Abermill Care home in Caerphilly celebrated this week as three dedicated staff members were each awarded with their 20 years’ service awards.

Olwen Richards (Domestic), Kim Hughes (Housekeeper) and Beverley Wilkins (Head Chef) began working in the home in 1998 when it was first converted to a home from a Music college.

Bev started out in Abermill in the kitchen 20 years ago and has been at home in Abermill ever since!

When asked what Kind care means to her, Bev said:

“I think it is taking the time to get to know the Residents to see what they like and don’t like and giving them a choice. It is making sure that everyone is welcomed in to the family and made to feel at home.”

Olwen added:

“It is making sure our Residents are treated the way we would want our own families and ourselves to be treated. I like to go the extra mile to make sure the Residents get the respect and care they deserve!”

Kim began her career as a Domestic and progressed to become Head Housekeeper.

She commented:

“This is a job I really enjoy and I love making sure that everyone is happy within the home. I feel that this is not just down to the carers but also to every individual who works in the home. I feel very proud to work at Abermill.”

Each of the three outstanding colleagues received thank you letters from HC-One’s CEO Justin, along with vouchers, wine and flowers.

Leah Mort, Abermill, Home Manager commented:

“We have a brilliant team here at Abermill Care Home and consider ourselves to be fortunate in having Bev, Olwen and Kim as role models – particularly for the younger members. Their dedication and commitment to the Home is really remarkable so on behalf of everyone at HC-One I would like to say thank you so much for everything you do for the Residents and your colleagues!”
