104 reasons to celebrate for Resident at Guisborough care homeHC-One’s Park House Care Home in Guisborough, Cleveland are celebrating the 104th birthday of one of their Residents, Elsie Potts who spent the special day surrounded by family and friends.

Elsie was born on 6th July 1914 and despite living through two World Wars, she comments:

“It wasn’t too bad because in those times everybody pulled together, there was such a feeling of comradery and what you had, you shared.”

Her daughter-in-law Judith took her out for a delicious lunch with the rest of the family: grandson Jonathon, his wife Sharon and Elsie’s great-grandchildren Lucy and Joe.

Winnie, good friend of Elsie and fellow Resident at Park House, handmade her a lovely card and brought it down especially for her. They were both in Hinton Court together before arriving at Park House.

As she cut her lovely cake, which Head of Service Matthew had made for her, Elsie asked if she could have the Blue Danube music playing. She told everyone that the piece of music is one of her best memories, as when she was 6 years old her father, who was a keen dancer, taught her to waltz to the song and she has never forgotten it.

Elsie started off her career with baking and catering company Sparks, once she was qualified she relocated to Scarborough to work in a hotel.

She then returned home with a job at Cargo Fleet offices working as a silver service waitress in the dining hall where she later worked her way up to Manageress of the Executives Dining Hall.

And the key to a long life? Elsie says it’s down to keeping busy, working hard and her faith, which has never wavered in keeping her strong.

Elsie commented:

“I had a truly wonderful day and everyone has been very kind.

I was so happy to spend it with my closest friends and family.”

Park House’s Home Manager, Alishia Calvert commented:

“It was such a great day and was amazing to see Elsie so happy and surrounded by her nearest and dearest.

I’m so happy that we got to spend this special day with her.”
