1,000 poppies donated to Coventry care home for Remembrance DayHC-One’s Brandon House care home in Coventry was delighted to receive 1,000 poppies knitted by the local community ahead of Remembrance Day 2019.

Sheryl Davis, Home Manager at Brandon House, put out an appeal on Facebook and the local radio station to ask the local community to knit poppies for the home’s Remembrance Day Service, which is taking place on Monday 11th November.

The home is delighted to have received approximately 1,000 hand-knitted poppies so far, with relatives of those living at Brandon House contributing to the cause. Some of the poppies have even arrived from countries across the globe.

The poppies, which are all different shapes and shades or red, have been displayed as a beautiful archway in the home’s garden. The design of the garden’s poppy display was suggested by a relative visiting the home, who was impressed by Brandon House’s yarn bombing display in the summer.

Residents and colleagues at Brandon House are already looking forward to raising money for The Poppy Appeal, the Royal British Legion’s biggest campaign held every year in November.

The poppies will be sold to guests attending Brandon House’s service, which will be led by Gareth Irvine of St Lawrence’s Church, followed by poems, hymns and a performance of The Last Post by one of the home’s volunteers.

Sheryl Davis, Home Manager at Brandon House, said: “Everyone at Brandon House is extremely grateful for the efforts friends, family and the local community have made to donate a fantastic 1,000 poppies for Remembrance Day.

“The poppy display is an amazing method of showing our support to The Poppy Appeal and has provided a space in the garden for residents to take a moment’s silence, remember those who fought in the war and pay their respects. We are already looking forward to welcoming the local community for our service for Remembrance Day.”
