Quality care conference launches in Manchester

Experts from the North West came together to explore new ways of enhancing the care of elderly people across the region.

The Commissioner Showcase conference was organised by HC-One, the UK’s largest care provider, at the Manchester Conference Centre, and brought together local authorities and NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups from across the region. The event provided a valuable forum for commissioners to learn about the innovative care service developments that HC-One has been pioneering in the region, and beyond, and discuss how to work together to further develop these services for the benefit of older people in Greater Manchester.

A highlight from the event was a talk by world-renowned dementia care expert, Professor Graham Stokes. He discussed HC-One’s Harmony Programme, which seeks to emphasise that quality of care and quality of life are of equal significance for older people with dementia.

Other key talking points included the digitisation of care and medicines management, and the successful roll out of HC-One’s digital tools across its care homes, referred to as eMED. This gives Colleagues time back to care whilst increasing oversight and accountability.

Working closely with local partners is at the core of HC-One’s founding values and one which the provider is proud to take across the country.

In light of the success of this inaugural event, HC-One is planning to roll out these showcase events across the country, and the organisation looks forward to engaging with commissioners from across the UK, sharing best practice and exploring how they can work together to enhance the care for older people living in the community.

Jake Rollin, HC-One’s Director of Commissioned Care, said:

“For HC-One, it has been a privilege to lead a practical discussion on improving care for older people in the North West. It is vital for the private and public sectors to work in partnership to achieve greater impact for older people needing care in the community.

“With Manchester leading the way in health and social care through its landmark devolution agreement and creating the Health and Social Care Partnership, we could not think of a better city to discuss and share innovative ideas to transform how care is delivered.”
