HC-One, the leading care provider of residential, nursing and memory care services, is celebrating double success at the National Care Awards 2020.
Professor Graham Stokes, Director of Memory Care Services, won the Lifetime Achievement in Care Award and Julie Loscombe, Senior Housekeeper at Defoe Court Care Home in County Durham, won the Care Housekeeper Award at the prestigious 22nd National Care Awards, which were presented at a virtual ceremony on Wednesday 25th November 2020.
Professor Graham Stokes, Director of Memory Care Services at HC-One who is a world-renowned dementia specialist, was nominated for the award following an impressive career spanning over 30 years in dementia care. Professor Stokes is a Clinical Psychologist and one of the most influential people working in dementia in the UK, and has been instrumental in developing and shaping the concept of person-centred care.
Professor Graham Stokes, HC-One’s Director of Memory Care Services, stated:
“Being chosen as the winner in this category is a deeply humbling experience, and I am honoured that my work has been recognised at such a prestigious ceremony.
“The greatest award for me in life has been to help people realise that living with dementia is more about the person and who they are and less about their dementia, thereby helping those with dementia to live more content and fulfilling lives.”
Julie Loscombe, Senior Housekeeper at Defoe Court Care Home in Newton Aycliffe, was nominated for the award as she is the ultimate team player. She drives and supports her team of Colleagues to deliver their best standard of work at all times. Julie’s daily duties include the cleaning of the home, stock management and ordering of all cleaning products. She also acts as the infection control lead in the home, which has come to the fore with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
Upon hearing the news that she had been selected as the winner of the Care Housekeeper Award, Julie Loscombe, Senior Housekeeper at Defoe Court Care Home, said:
“I am so happy to have been chosen by the judges as the winner of this award category. I would like to dedicate this award to all the staff at Defoe Court, as we work as one team and this has enabled us to get through everything we have over the recent months.”
“I am so grateful to the entire team, not only for supporting me to follow through with my vision, but for listening to my advice and giving 100% in everything they do.”
“The work I have done and continue to do is so that my Residents receive person centred care as well as to enable them to stay in contact with their families, as we work tirelessly to keep everyone safe.”
James Tugendhat, HC-One’s Chief Executive Officer, commented:
“Congratulations to Graham and Julie - this is a tremendous achievement and we are incredibly proud of them!
“We were thrilled to have six finalists at the National Care Awards in total and I would like to say a big well done to our four finalists as well – being shortlisted for a national award is a huge achievement in itself!
