HC-One Scotland has been announced as a finalist at the Scottish Care National Care Home Awards 2023, along with Charge Nurse, Iona McMorrine, from Moss Park care home.
A record number of entries of an exceptionally high standard were received this year, as Scottish Care proudly hosts the National Care Home Awards for the 19
th consecutive year. The awards are held in recognition of the compassion, skills and professionalism of the care home workforce who deliver high-quality care and support for residents across the country.
HC-One Scotland’s finalists for the Scottish Care National Care Home Awards 2023 are:
- Iona McMorrine, Charge Nurse at Moss Park Care Home, finalist in the Palliative & End of Life Care Practice Award Category
Iona shows a particular commitment to the development of staff supporting individuals receiving palliative and end of life care (PEOLC).
Iona joined Moss Park following being a district/practice nurse. Iona is highly skilled and has always been interested in palliative care in the district and practiced the gold standard guidelines. Her kindness, empathy and compassion towards the resident and their family is warm and honest.
Iona is an expert in palliative care and has taught the team many skills over her time at Moss Park. She has helped and guided staff through end-of-life care, teaching them the best practice to follow to make sure that residents receive the kindest possible care. Iona has built a great relationship with residents’ families, and her team has called her ‘inspirational’.
- HC-One Scotland, finalists in the Care Innovation Award Category
HC-One Scotland has been shortlisted for the Care Innovation Award Category which is a brand-new award category at the Scottish Care National Care Home Awards this year. HC-One Scotland has been shortlisted as a finalist in this category due to the exceptional achievements they have demonstrated in transforming the care home community, service, and environment.
HC-One Scotland has 51 care homes located across Scotland providing residential, nursing, dementia and specialist care. HC-One Scotland was formally launched and formed in June 2023 with the mission to be the first choice for families, colleagues and commissioners, serving at the heart of each of its communities.
HC-One Scotland’s purpose is to support those in its care to lead their best life with the vision to be the kindest care home provider. HC-One Scotland was announced as a winner in Carehome.co.uk’s Top 20 Large Care Home Group Awards for 2023. Seven HC-One homes in Scotland achieved Top 20 carehome.co.uk awards – Eastbank, Annfield, Balcarres, Balfarg, Lomond Court, Mugdock House, and Strathtay House.
Over half of the residents that HC-One Scotland supports are living with dementia. HC-One Scotland has evolved its dementia strategy to ensure that dementia care is accessible, sustainable, and fit for the future. HC-One Scotland is striving to enhance how residents living with dementia are cared for in a way that further supports their independence, confidence and identity. As part of this, HC-One Scotland’s Dementia Care Team have been involved in a project about the reduction of psychoactive medication being carried out in Scotland in collaboration with the Care Inspectorate. All HC-One Scotland care homes involved in the project have seen a reduction in psychoactive medications along with improved quality of life indicators for residents. One family member of a resident living in a HC-One Scotland care home commented,
“I can never thank you for giving me my wife back”.
