HC-One residents delighted by free ice cream and visit from ice cream vanResidents and colleagues at two of HC-One’s care homes, Forthbank Care Home in Kildean, Stirling, and Clarendon Hall in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, were treated to free ice cream during a surprise visit from an ice cream van, as a prize for winning HC-One’s ice cream sundae competition.

As part of the competition for National Ice Cream Day on 16th July, HC-One, in partnership with Lakeland Dairies, tasked residents and colleagues in its homes with creating their own ice cream sundae using milac gold cream as part of the sundae or an alternative decorative topping, coming up with a creative name and taking eye catching photos of their scrumptious sundae presentation.

Forthbank and Clarendon Hall care homes came up with the winning creations.

Forthbank’s ‘Summer Time Sundae’ was inspired by the sentiment that it is summer time every day at the home. The sundae consisted of milac cream, fresh fruit, toffee, strawberry and chocolate sauce, edible butterflies and flowers, fondant bumble bees, glazed cherries, chocolate wafer sticks and lime and strawberry jelly. Residents got creative and helped choose the ingredients and design the winning entry. It was also a great opportunity for the residents to reminisce on their childhood memories making and enjoying ice cream sundaes.

The second care home winner was Clarendon Hall Care Home in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire. Ingredients consisted of baileys, caramel, toffee, milac gold cream, condensed milk and fudge with residents on hand to assist including making the cream, browsing and choosing the toppings and sprinkling the sundae with chocolate drops, sprinkles and marshmallows before finishing the sundae with toffee sauce, a fudge bar and a waffle cone on top. Everyone chose something that they would like to be included in the sundae and helped with making the sundae look amazing and taste scrumptious.

Victoria Meakin, Group Development Chef at HC-One said:
“Congratulations to our winners and runners up of the Ice Cream Sundae competition challenge. We had a fantastic selection of entries to choose from which showcased residents and colleagues creativity, culinary and presentation skills. Thank you to Lakeland Dairies for partnering up with HC-One to make this possible. It’s great to see that the residents and colleagues at both Forthbank and Clarendon Hall Care Homes enjoyed their visit from the Ice Cream Van and their free ice creams.”

Donal Harte, Head of Marketing at Lakeland Dairies commented:
“We were overwhelmed by the fantastic response, and the incredible creativity shown by residents in creating a delicious ice cream sundae with Millac Gold Double. It certainly made judging extremely difficult! We are delighted to continue supporting HC-One and its care settings by devising engaging and fun activities for residents. I would like to thank Lisa Nurse, National Account Manager for her work on this project and to thank everyone who took part, and of course congratulate both winners.”
