Lawra Baumane, Quality of Life Specialist at HC-One has been shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Care Hero Award’ category by the judging panel at The Northern Echo Health and Care Awards 2022 in partnership with County Durham Care Partnership.
The Northern Echo Health and Care Awards are running for the second consecutive year, and are the culmination of a search to find the very best examples of excellence across the North East and North Yorkshire regions within the health and care sectors. The awards celebrate and recognise those who have gone the extra mile, shining a spotlight on those who richly deserve credit who have risen to the challenges presented by the global COVID-19 pandemic, overcoming adversity, showing strength, bravery, kindness, compassion and tenacity to serve their local communities, continuing to put others first.
Lawra has been named as a finalist in the ‘Care Hero Award’ category - an award that recognises that all care workers across the North East and North Yorkshire regions are heroes. The award will be presented to a care worker who makes a difference to people’s lives each day. Lawra has been selected as a finalist in this category due to demonstrating commitment and hard work to enabling Residents to live an independent, safe and fulfilled life. Lawra provides extensive support and training to Wellbeing Coordinators in HC-One care homes across the UK to help facilitate this which results in enhancing Residents quality of life.
Having joined HC-One originally as a Wellbeing Coordinator in October 2013 before progressing to her current role as Quality of Life Specialist in January 2020, Lawra’s positive attitude, compassion, enthusiasm, knowledge and passion are inspirational. Her work style is one that promotes inclusion and commitment from those whose lives she touches and she is responsible for many happy Residents and Colleagues.
Whilst the pandemic has posed many challenges for Colleagues to safely provide wellbeing activities within HC-One care homes. Lawra has worked hard to provide alternative ideas and continue to enhance their quality of life of Residents during this period. Lawra has rolled out a number of initiatives across HC-One care homes and adapted a number of wellbeing activities to be delivered safely and align with bringing physical, mental and emotional stimulation to all Residents of receiving different levels of care and of different abilities and mobilities. Lawra provides homes with a monthly ‘Wellbeing Matters’ newsletter which outlines key events, ideas, resources and activities to do with Residents in the homes.
Hearing of the news of her being shortlisted as a finalist Lawra Baumane, Quality of Life Specialist at HC-One, said:

The Northern Echo Health and Care Awards 2022 ceremony will be hosted by Wendy Gibson and is due to be held as a virtual online event on the evening of Thursday 28th April 2022, when the winners will be announced and receive a special trophy.

Lawra is one of eight HC-One finalists shortlisted in The Northern Echo Health and Care Awards in conjunction with County Durham Care Partnership across a variety of award categories. The finalists were carefully chosen in recognition of their hard work, kind care shown to Residents and support to Relatives, Colleagues and local communities, as well as the dedication and passion they demonstrate in their job roles. In addition to having eight finalists at The Northern Echo Health and Care Awards 2022, HC-One is delighted to have been shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Health Care Employer of the Year Award’ category.
