Burns Gym visit HC-One’s Darlington Support Office to host fitness and wellbeing session for MentalColleagues at HC-One’s Support Centre in Darlington enjoyed a fitness and wellbeing session held by Burns Gym to mark Mental Health Awareness Month.

The double-award winning Burns Gym brothers, Joe and Tony Burns, led a fitness class in HC-One’s offices for the company’s central support teams. This is the latest in HC-One’s collaboration with Burns Gym which has seen the brothers provide virtual low-intensity and tailored workout classes to Residents across over 70 of its care homes.

Over 50 Colleagues enjoyed taking part in the fitness session, which involved gentle cardiovascular exercises designed to focus on improving mobility, strength, stability, balance and co-ordination, improving physical fitness and mental wellbeing. The routines contained technique tips, how to do the exercises in a safe manner, warmups, a workout to popular classic songs that Colleagues enjoyed listening and working out to, and a cool down to end the workout session.

The routine was followed by a talk on the benefits of exercise in relation to mental health.

Alexandra Tombling, Assistant Marketing Manager at HC-One stated:

“After attending the session with Burns Gym, I had so much more energy to continue with the working day, and it even motivated me to do a power walk during my lunch! It can be very easy to slip into a routine of not staying active throughout the day, especially when you are desk-based. But with the encouragement from Burns Gym, I realised that I could do a whole host of exercises, right from the comfort of my desk. My body feels less stiff, and I am full of beans to continue with the rest of the day. It is amazing how a little exercise can go such a long way, both physically and mentally.”

Natasha Harding, HR Helpdesk Team Leader at HC-One said:

“Working with the Burns Gym Brothers to put together the sessions has been great, Tony and Joe are extremely knowledgeable in their field, as well as enthusiastic and passionate about helping people improve their lives through exercise.

“The sessions themselves where relaxed yet upbeat. The exercises themselves where accessible and great fun. Exercising along with Colleagues changes the atmosphere within the office to a more positive and was a great way to meet and break the ice Colleagues whom you don’t usually come across in the workday. The sessions definitely provided entertainment value as well as mental and physical benefits to all.”

Tony Burns, Co-Owner of Burns Gym stated:

“It was fantastic to collaborate with HC-One for such an important cause. Knowing how much of a positive impact exercise can have on mental health, we felt this would be a great opportunity to deliver an exercise class to HC-One support Colleagues. Everyone who participated did so with great enthusiasm and it was great to see all Colleagues getting involved and have fun.”

Joes Burns, Co-Owner of Burns Gym continued:

“We were honoured to support HC-One in promoting Mental Health Awareness and the significant role exercise plays in relation to this cause. Engaging in regular physical activity bestows upon us a multitude of benefits including enhanced mood, stress reduction and heightened cognitive function. It was fantastic to hear about the positive impact our sessions had on the HC-One support team.”
