At HC-One, we believe in caring with kindness, and Roy’s story from Pytchley Court care home in Brixworth is a beautiful example of this ethos in action.
Roy is a gentleman with advanced dementia who found solace and joy in the familiar notes of a piano. We knew that Roy had a deep love for jazz music, and a history as a pianist.
Our Wellbeing Coordinator Judy arranged for a professional musician to visit, bringing with him an electric organ. As the musician began to play and sing, something remarkable happened—Roy's memories of playing the piano resurfaced. He joined the musician at the keyboard, playing a few notes with pure joy and reconnecting with his passion for music that once filled his life.
Watch this video to see how a simple moment of connection and care brought so much happiness to Roy, demonstrating the profound impact that music and kindness can have on those living with dementia.
