Larchwood care home in Braintree enjoy 'Dementia Choir' event at Empire Theatre in Halstead

Residents at HC-One’s Larchwood Care Home, in Braintree, Essex, went on a minibus trip to take part in a Dementia Choir at the Empire Theatre in Halstead.

Larchwood residents Geri Cable, Rex Watson, Terry Larkin and Rosemarie Miller went on the day out, and they all received a warm welcome from everyone involved. Two ladies hosted the event and encouraged everyone to join in with a screen up on stage with the lyrics for everyone to follow.

A professional singer and volunteer, named Joanne, encouraged visitors to sing with her into a microphone. Larchwood residents Rosemarie and Terry were not shy at all, and both loved singing along to various songs throughout the day.

During the break, volunteers offered teas and coffees with biscuits to all those involved. The residents also enjoyed a lovely visit from a regular dog, who likes to go around and see everyone.

Rosemarie Miller, HC-One’s Larchwood resident, said:

“It was wonderful and really made my day. I love singing and always sing around the home too whenever music is played out.”

Suzy Lodge, HC-One’s Larchwood Wellbeing Coordinator, stated:

“It was lovely to be so welcomed, and we can't wait for next month’s visit. It was a joy to see our residents engaging with big smiles.”

Donna Owen, HC-One’s Larchwood Care Home Manager, commented:

“We at Larchwood are focusing on ensuring that all residents that are living with dementia, are provided with activities that they can engage with. This provides plenty of stimulation to help overall wellbeing of the residents, participating in dementia focused activities can encourage residents to feel valued and promotes a good quality of life.”
