Bringing the outdoors in with bird painting at Aberford HallAberford Hall in Roundhay, Yorkshire thought they would bring a little of the outdoors inside by asking Residents if they would like to take part in an activity whereby they would be painting a variety of different birds as pictures to display in the home.

Some of the Residents, have a keen eye and prefer to have references to paint from. The home has a wonderful book of birds that show the wonderful colours of nature. This means the Residents can paint with bright colours and have their creative expression shine.

One of the Residents was not pleased with the small birds in the book and wanted a peacock to paint. It only took a few moments to print a photo out for her and she was over the moon. This is when person-led and person-centred practice is the most rewarding, to see the happiness on the Resident's faces.

The Residents most enjoyed choosing what birds they were going to paint.

Wellbeing Coordinator, Luke, commented, “I think that small person-centred acts can significantly raise the quality of a Resident's day. I feel that taking the time to listen carefully to the Resident can open up these opportunities to us all”.
