Birthday celebrations for Dove Court ResidentHC-One’s Dove Court care home Resident, Margaret, has recently celebrated her 100th birthday with fellow Residents and her Relatives.

Born in Bacup in 1919, Margaret, or ‘Peggy’ as she is better known, spent her early career working in the cotton mills, but then went on to run a local pub in Blackburn named ‘The Well Wishers Arms’, before she managed a sweet shop in Accrington.

Throughout her life, Peggy has enjoyed playing bingo and socialising with friends, she enjoyed a small tipple with friends in her local pub from time to time also.

Peggy has always been a family orientated lady, and married her childhood sweet heart Tommy in 1935, they remained married for 50 years until Tommy sadly passed away in 1991.

Peggy and Tommy had two sons together, and the family has now extended to include three grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and six great, great grandchildren.

When asked her secret to long life, Peggy commented “Keep going, don’t give up and keep moving.”

Catherine Brierley, Home Manager, commented: “It’s been so wonderful to celebrate Peggy’s birthday today, her family and friends attended the home and celebrated with her, making today so special.”
