Stalybridge care home Resident knits infection control mascotMay, a Resident at HC One’s Millbrook care home, has been busy knitting and recently added an infection control bear to her collection.

May has proved quite the hit at the Stalybridge care home with all of the knitted creations she has been making. Most of the Residents have a teddy in their room thanks to May!

May came to Millbrook on end of life care, but through kind care, support and her own determination she built up her strength and decided to start knitting again.

May has the distinction of being Manchester’s first professional foster carer and used to knit cardigans and baby clothes for the children she fostered. In fact over a 20 year period she fostered over a 100 children!

When she heard about the Infection Control Army, an idea to knit a mascot was born. No name has been given to the mascot yet, however Andy will be asking the staff at Millbrook to come up with a name soon.

May commented “I thought it was a great idea to be part of something so important, and I enjoy knitting!”

The home manager said “the mascot will be proudly displayed and no doubt in the months ahead will be a reminder of what an important part infection control has played in our care home.”
