Pen-pal initiative is a success as Coventry care home opens its very own post officeHC-One’s Brandon House care home in Coventry has loved getting involved in nationwide pen-pal scheme, Postcards for Kindness, so much that they have opened up their very own Post Office for Residents.

Postcards for Kindness is an initiative where care homes across the UK can reach out to the community via social media and in return receive postcards from holidaymakers throughout the year.

Residents at Brandon House love receiving postcards from people travelling across the globe, as well as sending out pen-pal letters and postcards in return.

One Resident expressed that they would love to have a real-life post office in the home, as she used to enjoy visiting the post office when she was younger.

The team got to work to make the Resident’s wish come true and, with generous donations from Colleagues and Relatives, Brandon House has created an amazing, realistic post office for those living at the home.

The post office even features a store, where Residents can buy postcards, greeting cards and sweets, or even sit and have a cup of tea while watching the TV.

The new addition has gone down a treat with those living at Brandon House, with one Resident saying: “We love our new shop and post office. It means that we can choose our own cards and actually post them to people from the home!”

Sheryl Davis, Home Manager at Brandon House, said: “Postcards for Kindness has been such a great success at Brandon House, with Residents really enjoying writing and receiving them.

“Our new post office has brought back memories for many Residents and has been an exciting new addition for everyone at our home.”

Located on Old Church Road, Brandon House offers short and long term care packages for older members of the community needing nursing dementia care.
