Newcastle care home Resident celebrates 100th birthday after fighting off COVID-19A Resident at HC-One’s Kirkwood Court care home in Newcastle Upon Tyne, who in April tested positive for the coronavirus, celebrated her 100th birthday this month with her friends and Colleagues.

Colleagues and Residents at Kirkwood Court celebrated Winnifred ‘Win’ Wilsons 100th birthday on 10th July first by decorating her room, the dining area and the foyer with 100th Birthday banners and balloons.

Then, for her dinner, Kirkwood Court Kitchen staff cooked Win her favourite meal which was a salmon salad, something she used to cook for her late husband. Win was overwhelmed with the generosity of everyone and the number of gifts she received, with her bedroom becoming crowded with flowers and gifts.

Even local neighbours who used to live nearby dropped some things off at the home for her and with hairdressers still not being able to come in one of the Seniors, Lauren came in on her day off specially to curl her hair for the special day.

Reaching 100 is something Win never thought she would get to, not only has she seen two World Wars, but back in April Win also tested positive for COVID-19 and has managed to fight through that too.

“Where has the time gone I never thought I would survive COVID and reach this milestone, what a year it has been,” said Win.

Although Win’s family were unable to visit, Colleagues at Kirkwood Court made sure it was celebrated the best they could with everyone getting involved and ensuring she had a very special day.

Kirkwood Court Home Administrator, Samantha said: “Being able to share Wins 100th Birthday with her is a celebration I will never forget she is such a strong lady and I only wish I am as fabulous as her if I reach that age.”
