National Fish and Chips Day for Stevenage Residents
Today Residents at Woodlands View care home in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, enjoyed their dinner with a bit of a twist. Yes, it was National Fish and Chips Day!

A few of the Residents remembered that fish was the only regular thing they could have when they had rations during the war and one gentleman, who served in the service, said that fish and chips was a code word to identify another British soldier.

An enjoyable lunch was had by all including the debate on whether to have vinegar or not as the most suitable condiment!

Resident Cathryn Bate, pictured with Kathleen DeVries, said "It tasted better than usual now that I know the background of it".

Home Manager, Deby O'Hare, said, “It was great to see the Residents having a discussion about what fish and chips meant to them. It is such a traditional meal that everyone has stories of their own!”
