Holmfirth care home watch caterpillars turn to butterfliesColleagues at White Rose House care home decided to surprise the Residents by bringing some caterpillars into the home to watch them develop.

The Holmfirth care home likes to try out different activities, so the staff thought it would be a great idea to show the amazing metamorphosis as caterpillars change into beautiful butterflies.

Wellbeing coordinator Heather, put them on display in the main entrance of the home for the Residents to watch and enjoy.

Heather also printed out some facts about them, as well as the life cycle of a caterpillar through to butterfly.

Everyone in the home watched them develop into a chrysalis and then slowly hatch into butterflies. They were kept in the home for a further 3 days after hatching before being released outside.

One of the Residents said “look how beautiful they are”.
It was a wonderful activity and nice to see everyone get involved and excited to see the next changes.
