Hebburn care home celebrates Friendship DayResidents at HC-One’s Hebburn Court care home in Hebburn celebrated ‘Friendship Day’ on 24th July by sending their fellow Residents some lovely handmade cards.

Friendship Day was originally founded by Hallmark in 1919, it was intended to be a day for people to celebrate their friendship by sending each other cards, but by 1940 the market had dried up and eventually, it died out completely. However, in 1998 Winnie the Pooh was named the worlds Ambassador of Friendship at the United Nations and in April 2011, the United Nations officially recognised International Friendship Day again.

To celebrate, Hebburn Court joined in with Virtual Hugging, writing poems and cards, giving and receiving compliments whilst enjoying high tea.

One Hebburn Court Resident said: “I have met some lovely people in Hebburn Court who are now good friends.”

A fun day was had by all with some lovely cards and messages being sent to other Residents whilst they all enjoyed their high afternoon tea, which included, sandwiches, scones, biscuits, tea and coffee.

Hebburn Court wellbeing coordinator Kerry Pringle said: “Today was a lovely day, and it was lovely to see the friendships we have formed here in Hebburn Court during hard times.”
