Garforth care home Residents meet new pet guinea pigsResidents at HC-One’s Augustus Court care home in Garforth welcomed two new furry friends to their home.

Augustus Court Colleagues, Jane Carr and Tracy Hanson decided it would be a good idea to buy two new pets for Residents at the home, to help them destress and to keep them occupied.

For elderly pet owners, pets can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, increase social interaction and physical activity and help them learn.

Augustus Court Resident Dorothy Making said: “They are just lovely and she could cuddle them all day.”

Colleagues at Augustus Court asked Residents to come up with names for their new furry friends and to write them down on a piece of paper so that they could pick them from a hat. Maggie and Mabel where the names that were chosen and the Residents love them.

The two 9-week-old guinea pigs have been very popular amongst Residents, with many enjoying holding them in their hands and cuddling their soft fur.

Augustus Court Home Manager, Jane Carr said: “We were all so excited and loved sitting with the Residents whilst they held them.”
