Essex care home Colleagues give up spare time to become home hairdressersThe Hornchurch care home in Essex, have not been able to have external hairdressers into the care home due to social distancing and ensuring the safety of Residents. So, in response, HC-One Colleagues at the home, who have previous experience with hairdressing have begun to undergo pampering sessions with the Residents.

Colleagues Lisa Dolling, Chantelle Reed, Maria Matuluka and Shauna Neylon have all worked hard to be able to provide a range of services available to Residents during this time. Treatments include, wash and blow dry, set, hair cutting and styling.

“We wanted to provide Residents with a salon experience and allow them to enjoy their time in the salon. We do this by playing calming music, chatting to the Residents about their day and how they are feeling and offering them refreshments.”

All Residents, both men and women, who come to the salon all leave with a smile on their face and are happy with the outcome of their hair.

The Residents including Betty Hunt, Gladys Ede, Eileen Brown, Martin Spencer and Donna Brett all really enjoyed having their hair done and the difference a haircut and blow dry can make!

One Resident remarked, " My hair looks absolutely beautiful thank you!"

Home Manager, Tania Banner, commented, “I am really proud of all of my Colleagues and would like to thank those who have given up their spare time to do Residents’ hair!"

The Hornchurch is now trying to maintain once a weekly hairdressing day.
