Duvet and ice-cream day at Teesside care homeToday Victoria House care home in Stockton-on-Tees had work carried out on their air conditioning units in the lounge. In order to adhere to infection control and health and safety guidelines, they saw this as a perfect opportunity to have a duvet day for the Residents and make it as relaxed as possible for everybody.

Sometimes a day of relaxing in bed can do the world of good, especially when you are provided with a delicious vanilla ice cream with sauce and sprinkles to celebrate National Ice Cream Day!

Some of the Residents chose to relax in their arm chairs whilst others were happy to spend the whole day relaxing and watching television or listening to their radios with regular visits from Wellbeing Coordinator Rosie and the care assistants. It was also a great opportunity to have some Skype sessions with families.

Rosie said, “Although some of the Residents enjoy being in the lounge most days socialising and having more people around them, we had absolutely no complaints and everybody was really understanding and helpful.”

"Sometimes a change of routine doesn't have to be a nerve-wracking experience, it can in fact be quite the opposite”.

One Resident said the Ice cream was her highlight as they're her favourites, whilst another said that the video chat with her family was the best.

"I like to spend a day in bed, I'd maybe like to have one or two more soon!” commented one Resident.

Home Manager, Sarah Dodsworth, said, "This is proof that something positive can always come from a challenging situation, the ice cream just topped it off!"
