Community connections at Wigan care homeHC-One’s Westwood Lodge care home were delighted to again welcome local volunteer organisation, Community Circles, to their home as they regular enable Residents to maintain a connection with the local community.

The bond began in September 2019 and soon after, Resident, Alice, made the decision to become more involved in the local area, and was matched with volunteer, Fiona.

They enjoy each other’s company and have since formed a strong bond with one another, with Alice talking of her teaching past and how she would like to run a group for children and Residents to take part in activities together.

A local school was keen to collaborate with the home for this idea, and a date was set for the children to come and visit Alice. The Residents enjoyed the company of the children as they asked each other questions and found out more about each other’s lives. Games were played and excitement shared as they all took part in various educational activities.

Lorraine Young, home manager, commented: “The Residents are delighted to have made this connection with our local primary school. They regularly visit us to take part in reading and other games and activities, with Residents always looking forward to the next session.”
