Centenarian shares words of wisdom at Penrith care homeCentenarian Nellie Gibson shared her life wisdom with fellow Resident at HC-One’s Winters Park care home in Penrith, Pat Errington.

Pat, aged 78, enjoyed a long chat with Nellie, aged 101, about her life and experiences, the pair discussed a variety of topics from friendship to advice to your younger self.

When asked what her secret to saying young is, Nellie explained that she believes it is working hard and looking after herself well. While discussing the importance of friendship, Nellie said that you need to keep your friends close as they help you get through the harder times in life.

Nellie shared that she believes the best and most important invention she has seen in her lifetime is the mobile phone, but it does concern her that they take up so much of the younger generation’s time when they should be focused on communicating in person.

Pat asked Nellie what advice she would give to her younger self, she said it would be that if you can’t say something nice about a person, don’t say anything at all. Nellie commented that the best decade of her lifetime was the war time, as she had to live everyday like it was her last but she also loved having a family.

Winters Park Home Manager, Kate Lewis, said “It is lovely to hear all about Nellie’s life and I know that Pat enjoyed chatting with her about their different experiences. Nellie’s advice is something we can all learn from and remember to enjoy our lives to the fullest.”
