Centenarian celebrates birthday at Whitley Bay care home during lockdownDorothy Gray celebrated her 102nd birthday at HC-One’s Eastbourne House care home in Whitley Bay on Thursday 2nd April during the UK-wide lockdown caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Mother of two Dorothy developed photographs of bomb sites during WWII and after the war worked in the Newcastle branch of Boots.

The team at Eastbourne House wanted to make sure that Dorothy was still able to enjoy her special day despite the government restrictions in force to try and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Dorothy enjoyed opening lots of cards from her loved ones, video calling her family and having a slice of her very own homemade birthday cake, when asked what her highlight of the day was she said it being able to still speak with her family via Skype.

Debbie White, Home Manager at Eastbourne House said: “I am so pleased that we were able to help Dorothy celebrate her milestone birthday despite the current unprecedented circumstances.”
