Barnard Castle care home Residents on cloud nine after once-in-a-lifetime flying experienceJoe Robson and Linnie Kavanagh, Residents at Beaconsfield Court care home – part of HC-One, the kind care company – became pilots for the day when they visited Teesside International Airport on Thursday 12th September.

When asked what Joe would wish to do, he said that he would love to be able to go fly in an aeroplane, due to his health conditions the team researched alternatives and discovered the opportunity for Joe to fly his very own plane at Eden Flight Training located at Teesside International Airport.

Linnie was also asked what she would like to do, when she couldn’t think of anything the team told her some of the wishes other Residents had chosen, when she heard of the plans for Joe to visit a flight simulator, she said: “I am 97 years old and have never been in a plane so I would like to do that too.”

The pair were very excited as they arrived at Eden Flight Training, they took turns taking control of their very own plane, Joe opted to fly over Barnard Castle and London while Linnie covered most of the North East and managed to do a loop the loop which she was very happy about.

Afterwards, they watched some light aircraft taking off and shared their highlights of the experience. Joe commented: “What a marvellous experience, I never thought I would fly a plane.”

Beaconsfield Court Home Manager, Laura Langridge said: “What an amazing experience for Joe and Linnie, the smiles on their faces really said it all. Thank you to Eden Flight Training for helping us to make their wishes come true.”
