A taste of the French cuisine at Burnley homeWhat could be better than an afternoon of cheese tasting followed by a nip or brandy?

Residents at Dove Court care home in Lancashire were treated to a French themed day with a variety of different cheeses, tasteful music and a nice glass of brandy to wash it all down with, (and let’s not forget the string of onions!).

At all HC-One care homes, we like to celebrate world culture and this week Dove Court activity organiser’s Cath Marks And Sonya Arbuthnot, thought they would take the Residents for a virtual trip over the English Channel to try the French cuisine.

A selection of luxury cheeses were brought out on a trolley which included; Camembert, Stilton, Brie, Roquefort, Feta and Gruyère. As well as the traditional French delicacies of croissants, French sticks, brioche bread rolls and grapes.

Cath and Sonya along with 12 Residents each had their turn at trying the concoctions and relaxed to some lovely French cafe music playing in the background.

Staff dressed up in French beret hats and wore plastic onions round their necks to make everyone feel like they were sat in a café chatting with their friends on the Champs Elysses.

Cath Marks commented, “Everyone had a lovely time singing their favourite tune of La'mer and enjoyed having a little tipple of sherry or brandy”.

One Resident said, “I have had an amazing afternoon, can we do this again? We have really enjoyed tasting the different cheeses”.

Another added, “Can we have some more themed afternoons? We love the little French quiz”.

Sonya remarked, “The senior carers thanked us for a great afternoon and we had a lot of good feedback.

“It makes our day to see the Residents happy and content”.
